Stanislaus State's Early Library & First Librarian

Stanislaus State's Early Library & First Librarian In-Person

From 1960 until mid-1965, the original Stanislaus State college was located at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds. This new campus included classroom space, offices, a cafeteria, and of course, a library!  Library director R. Dean Galloway (1922-2014) was responsible for setting up the new library. He was only the third of several founding faculty hired by President J. Burton Vasché (Stanislaus State’s first President) in 1960.

Exhibition features documents and artifacts from the first library at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, and the later Vasche Library (opened in 1965).  Also on display are documents and artifacts from the early library faculty and staff, and especially personal papers of R. Dean Galloway.
